Happy New Year! With a new year comes a new look, new attitude, and new goals that any student can set for themselves. Whether you are graduating this upcoming year, or are still just getting started with your college career, here are 5 things you should prepare for your senior year of college!
5) Talk to your college advisor!
There are plenty of tools your school provides you to make sure you are on track for your graduation, from 4 Year Plans, Degree Audits, and FAQs. But no tool is more important than speaking to your college advisor!
Even if you think you are set to graduate, there can always be updates to your graduation requirements, bugs in the system, or even just something you accidentally glossed over. That’s why setting up appointments throughout your senior year – or at the very least the tail end – is a great way to have a second set of eyes ensure you are doing what you need to do to graduate.
4) File for your degree ASAP!
It’s super easy to get caught up in the stress and craziness of your last semesters or quarters of college – and that’s okay! But there’s one thing you need to be aware of no matter what, and that’s filing for your degree!
Contrary to popular belief, there’s just one small step in order to make sure you are eligible to graduate; it’s not an automatic process like many may think. Without filing, even if you complete all your classes, you won’t be officially graduated, and thus can’t walk at graduation or receive your degree. So just make sure that once your school’s degree application is live, get that done as soon as you can before their deadlines!
3) Plan ahead your photoshoots!
Setting up a photoshoot with your friends and college accessories is one of the most popular ways of memorializing your college career! That said, it can also tend to be the most frustrating parts of your senior year (aside from finals, of course), as you can encounter scheduling issues and long lines at photo spots. 2) Start backing up your files!
There’s a good chance that by this time in your college career, you have a TON of essays, projects, presentations, and files from your various classes and extracurriculars throughout the years. And an even higher chance they’re stored in various college-hosted databases, such as your school’s email drives. It’s best to start archiving your work, because you never know when you’ll need them again!
While they may not seem important now, you never know when you need to reference your class notes or include a project in your portfolio. Download your work and store them onto your personal devices, especially if they are stored on school-owned databases, as some school’s may delete your personal school database not long after graduation!
